Which CBD to choose

Cannabidiol, more commonly known as CBD, is the scientific name given to the natural molecule found in hemp.

Don't confuse hemp and Cannabis, they are two plants from the same family, but do not have the same properties or physical characteristics.

Hemp is distinguished by its long stems, which can reach up to 3 metres. Its leaves are thin and less dense. The major difference between these two cousins is in their flowers and leaves.

Cannabis, known as recreational hemp, has flowers and leaves covered with a resin containing traces of a psychoactive compound: THC, which is 20-40%.

Traditional hemp has only a tiny fraction of this, 0.2%. It is known for its high content of Cannabidiol (CBD), which has relaxing properties and positive effects on health.

CBD is an increasingly common ingredient in many health and wellness products.

Hemp is one of the oldest plants cultivated by man. In Neolithic times, it was cultivated for its medicinal properties and its use as a textile fibre. Since then, our researchers have discovered a multitude of possible uses for it in many different fields.

Hemp seeds can be used in cooking, as birdseed, or as fishing bait.

Once pressed, they yield an excellent cooking oil rich in omega-3 and omega-9 fatty acids, as well as an oil used in cosmetics for its restorative and moisturizing properties.

The strong fibers in hemp stalks can be used for insulation, making paper pulp, creating clothing, or even as a material of the future: car bodies made of hemp fiber. Inside the stem is a type of fine straw called shives, which is used in horticulture, in construction for building insulation, as animal bedding, and for many other purposes.

In short, hemp is a multi-faceted plant that can be found everywhere in our daily lives: we can be dressed in hemp, we can eat hemp, we can be insulated thanks to hemp, we can have hemp-based cosmetics...

Cannabis sativa is the botanical name for cultivated hemp. This plant contains over 100 cannabinoid compounds. The most extensively studied ones, whose positive health effects are well-documented, fall into two categories.

On the one hand, we have the best-known compound, CBD, as well as CBDA, CBDV, CBC, CBG, and THCA, each known for its various beneficial effects on the body (anxiolytic, immunosuppressive, neuroprotective, and anti-inflammatory).

On the other hand, we have the so-called psychoactive molecules, but not all of them have an intoxicating effect. CBN, THC and its precursor THCV will also have therapeutic virtues such as anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsant, sedation or positive effects on psoriasis for example.

Operation

How does CBD work?

The therapeutic effects are not solely due to cannabinoids. Other factors, such as terpenes and flavonoids, also contribute to what is known as the entourage effect.

It is the synergy between these different compounds—that is, the way they influence and enhance one another—that enhances the beneficial effects and properties of each hemp variety.

CBD is extracted in such a way that it is as complete as possible: cannabinoids, flavonoids and a broad terpene profile.

Terpenes are responsible for the various flavors and aromas found in the plant and, consequently, in CBD.

Flavonoids are responsible for the color of the fruits, flowers, and leaves of certain plants. They offer numerous benefits for our bodies and our health.

They are known for their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, immunostimulant, antiviral, antibacterial, antihistamine, and venotonic properties.

They significantly improve blood circulation by strengthening blood vessels and help prevent cardiovascular disease.

What

What is really going on in our bodies?

Cannabidiol (CBD) has a unique ability to interact with the human body by binding to cell receptors and altering the message they send to the brain.

Our bodies have an endocannabinoid system that works to maintain a certain balance within our bodies—a process known as homeostasis. This endocannabinoid system regulates essential biological functions such as sleep, appetite, pain perception, mood, and stress.

Our bodies naturally produce endocannabinoids to help maintain internal balance.

CBD, on the other hand, is a phytocannabinoid—a plant-derived cannabinoid found in Cannabis Sativa plants.

The endocannabinoids naturally produced by our bodies and the phytocannabinoids derived from the plant interact with the same type of receptors, known as CB1 and CB2, which are found throughout our bodies.

These receptors have the ability to alter the messages sent to our brain. Taking CBD therefore activates the CB1 and CB2 receptors, which are themselves connected to the central nervous system.

As a result, cannabidiol can reduce the intensity of neural activity by disrupting the signals from nerve cells responsible for pain, stress, and inflammation.

What are the effects of CBD

Helps to get to sleep

Its effects are diverse and varied and can manifest themselves differently from one person to another, depending on their sensitivity. Overall, CBD will provide a feeling of well-being by maintaining a healthy and stable balance in our body in the face of external factors that would disturb its normal functioning, this is called homeostasis.

It will therefore, for example, have therapeutic, relaxing, anti-stress, analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects.

Directions for use and dosage

To take full advantage of the effects of CBD, it is best to mix this molecule with liquids with a high fat content such as oil (hemp oil, olive oil, mct oil...). This is why the use of CBD in the form of oils, creams or capsules is ideal. Of course, it is possible to consume it in its pure form for infusions for example.

It is best to consult your doctor if you are taking other forms of medication in order to get professional advice on the compatibility of the different substances.
