HHX is a somewhat unusual cannabinoid that is not found in the trichomes of the cannabis flower, but rather in the seeds and pollen. It is obtained from THC through a hydrogenation process. THC is extracted from the cannabis plant using CO2 extraction and is then sealed with hydrogen in a pressurized container to break the double carbon bonds in THC, producing a hydrogenated version known as HHX. Since this cannabinoid is present in very small quantities in the plant, it is usually reproduced synthetically in a laboratory rather than extracted directly from the plant.
